The holiday season is a mix of emotions for many of us. Thanksgiving, in particular, can be a stressful time full of travel, awkward family conversations, and being back at your parents’ house surrounded by family. It can also be an awesome time full of delicious food and over-indulging!
These tweets perfectly embody the complicated feelings a lot of us have when it comes to Thanksgiving. Some tweets will make you laugh, while others will hit way too close to home.
Before you head to your family’s house for an emotion-filled Thanksgiving weekend, read through these tweets to fortify your strength and spirits. Happy Thanksgiving!

In General
You should never discuss politics or religion in polite company. It’s a saying for a reason, and most of us can agree that keeping the conversation light and general is the best choice when interacting with relatives you KNOW you don’t agree with.
YouTuber Brandon Calvillo knows this from firsthand experience.

I wouldn’t be surprised if this conversation takes place at every holiday dinner, every year. Some people are just looking for a reason to bring up politics and express their opinion; you don’t even have to try hard to aggravate them. Simply commenting on the delicious turkey might send them spiraling!
Thanksgiving Pt II
Still staying on the subject of leftovers– everyone knows it’s the best part of Thanksgiving. Bill Dixon tweeted a Thanksgiving secret that everyone does but never publicly acknowledges. He said his real Thanksgiving holiday is the night after.
He gets to eat cold turkey over the sink in his underwear. No one’s there to judge him, no one’s there to eat the best cuts of turkey but him.

Who can relate? All of us. If you’ve never stood in front of your fridge scarfing down cold turkey and cranberry sauce in the middle of the night, you haven’t really lived.
There’s something about gorging on leftovers that is so satisfying. We can’t explain it, but we’re sure you know what we mean.
The Truth About Turkey
Turkey is often blamed for the post-Thanksgiving naps we all love to take because it contains tryptophan. This amino acid makes your body produce serotonin and melatonin, which is why you may feel sleepy after eating a bunch of turkey.
But there may be another, way more obvious, reason you need a nap after eating dinner.

Twitter user Sarcastic Mommy lives up to her name with this tweet. She states that it’s probably not the turkey making you sleepy, it’s the alcohol. Be real with yourself.
How many drinks do you usually have to help you get through Thanksgiving day with your family? If it’s a lot, we get it. There are only so many times you can muster an enthusiastic answer to the question, “So what are you up to these days?”
Star of Thanksgiving
All families are dramatic, but some more than others. Alison Leiby has a dramatic family, but she might be the reason for this. She tweeted that her mom asked what she was going to make for Thanksgiving and she said, “A scene.” At least she’s honest! She’s doing everyone a favor, honestly.

No one in Alison’s family can say her outburst at Thanksgiving was unexpected. She warned them she’d make a scene and she came through on her promise! We all need a family member like Alison.
Who else is going to provide the entertainment while everyone else is making polite conversation with their ultra-conservative great uncle? She’s the hero every family needs.
